November 20, 2023FBBR – Troubleshooting – Using Self Backup
To troubleshoot if it’s a backup server issue or issue with any of vCenter components or a backup of vCenter is required but no backup architecture in place, you can backup the VCSA locally to itself using the following protocols in the following versions:
6.5 / 6.7 : SCP
7.0 / 8.0 : SFTP
Change the default shell of vCenter’s root account to bash shell
# chsh -s /bin/bash root
6.5 / 6.7
We can use the vCenter and ESXi as a SCP Server.
vCenter
ESXi
scp://<ESXi_IP>/vmfs/volumes/<Datastore_Name>
7.0 / 8.0
Use vCenter as backup location
