VMware Site Recovery Manager is an industry leading Disaster Recovery solution which ensures availability of applications across sites in VMware environments.
In simpler terms SRM automates the recovery and transfer of Virtual Machines to a remote site incase of any disaster in your primary site.
SRM needs an replication software to replicate Virtual Machines between the protected and recovery site. You can use the Array Based replication or the native vSphere Replication.
Site Recovery Manager Architecture
VMware Site Recovery Manager can be used only with vSphere and the same version of vCenter and SRM has to be installed on the Protected and Recovery site.
You can either use the Array based replication or the vSphere Replication for the replication process.
