VMware SRM 6.x – Part 4 – Deploying VMware vSphere Replication

After configuring the sites, we need to replicate the Virtual Machines between the protected and the recovery site.

You can use either use the Array based replication or use the VMware product vSphere Replication. In our lab we are using the vSphere Replication Appliance to configure the replication between the sites.

Download the vSphere Replication ISO from HERE.

Extract the ISO. You ll get the OVF Template.

Deploy the OVF Template onto the vCenter Server of the protected site.

Select the OVF File which we extracted.

In the details window, click Next.

Accept the license and click Next.

Give a name to the Appliance and click Next.

Select the configuration and click Next.

Select the Datastore and click Next.

Select the Appropriate Portgroup and also select the IP Allocation as Static – Manual. Type in the DNS and Gateway IP address and click Next.

Type in the Password for the appliance and also the Management IP address.

Note: It is always recommended to use an NTP Servers to synchronize time across the sites.

Click Next to bind the vCenter API with the Replication Appliance.

Verify your settings and Click Finish to deploy the Appliance.

Wait for the vSphere Replication Appliance to import and Power-On.

Repeat the same in the DR site.
